Erica Ariel Fox

Erica Ariel Fox, J.D., is a Lecturer at Harvard Law School, and the President of Mobius Executive Leadership. Erica is recognized internationally for her pioneering work that explores the personal, spiritual, and deeply human aspects of negotiation and leadership. For fifteen years she has led seminars around the globe, including in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, all over Europe, and throughout the United States and Canada. As a partner of Mobius, Erica works with Fortune 500 companies as well as public sector leaders to build capacity for transformational change. Erica will complete her first book based on her body of work – The Beyond Yes Method -- in 2011.

After the events of September 11, 2001, Erica felt a strong pull to investigate new, untapped perspectives on conflict, and to respond to a need expressed by many professionals for deeper meaning in their lives. Already a lecturer at Harvard Law School and an emerging thought leader, Erica drew on her diverse experience to found the Harvard Negotiation Insight Initiative (HNII) at the Program on Negotiation (PON). HNII explored what timeless wisdom traditions and contemplative practices could offer the contemporary negotiation and leadership field. HNII served as a living laboratory, bringing professionals together from dozens of countries to explore the interface of the world of action and the world of reflection. Erica developed the Beyond Yes Method out of this dynamic action research.

Today Erica focuses on helping professionals to cultivate internal leadership qualities such as self-awareness, presence, courage and balance. She also teaches negotiation skills, including how to understand people even when you disagree, and how to take a stand for yourself. This combination enables people to get great results, both at work and at home.

In addition to her work at Mobius and Harvard, Erica is part of a leadership council that runs the Global Negotiation Network and Exchange (GNNE, pronounced genie). After running HNII for several years at PON, this project left the university setting to become an independent, virtual, global network of like-minded professionals. Today this Global Network, or GNNE, links together people who want to blend the demands of their outer lives with the depth of their inner lives in order to build a more sustainable, secure and peaceful world.

Erica received her undergraduate degree with honors from Princeton University. She received her law degree with honors from Harvard Law School, where she has taught negotiation since 1996. She serves as Core Faculty for the American Institute of Mediation, and on the International Advisory Board of Mediators Beyond Borders. Erica is a popular teacher at conferences and learning centers, including Omega Institute, Esalen, and Kripalu Centers among others. She lives with her fiancé in Boston, United States, and in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, splitting her time between both countries. Her current passions include learning to fly on the trapeze, and learning Dutch from her four-year-old step-son.
